APPARATUS FOR CLEANING A FLOOR SURFACE

An apparatus for cleaning a floor surface comprises an upright part including a user graspable handle, a base assembly that includes a first base part 16 connected to the upright part and a second base part 18 connected to the first base part 16, which second base part 18 includes a cleaning member 20 and wherein a device (62, fig 1) effects movement of the first 16 and second 18 base parts relative to each other. The base assembly can include a first passage 42 with a respective inlet 44 and a second passage 46 with a respective inlet 48. The device (62, fig 1) may cause movement of the second base part 18 to move between first and second conditions with the cleaning member 20 and second inlet 48 being closer to the floor surface in the second condition than in the first condition. A valve 50 may be present to selectively close the first 42 or second 44 passage depending on position of the second base part 18. The arrangement allows the height of an agitator brush 20 to be adjusted.
