PURPOSE:To check reverse ionization and improve the efficiency of trapping particles with the sequential zigzag arrangement in the air current of a front stage grooved electrode train opened in the direction equal to the air current and a rear stage grooved electrode train opened in two directions, equal and opposite to the air current. CONSTITUTION:Trains of shevron-like grooved electrodes 1 and 4 and X-cross- sectioned grooved electrodes 2 and 3 are arranged to cross the air current. The first train 1 is opened in the direction equal to the air current as indicated by the arrow and the second and third train are opened in the direction respectively opposite and equal to the air current. In addition, with the respective electrodes zigzaged, a discharge projection 6 is provided at the electrode open end between the first and third trains to form a discharge pole 5 while a bar-shaped member 8 is provided at the electrode open end between the second and fourth trains to form a trapping pole 7. With such an arrangement, it is possible to eliminate the re-dispersion of particles in the high speed current, thereby assuring high efficient trapping of particles high in electric resistance without causing reverse ionization. |
