PURPOSE:To separately recover copper and zinc from powdery copper slag, by adding a prescribed quantity of steel dust and a binder such as waste liqud resulting from pulp production and bentonite to the powdery copper slag to make briquettes and melting and refining them in a vertical blast furnace. CONSTITUTION:Powdery copper slag is mixed with 20-70wt% of steel dust and a binder which is at least one of waste liquid resulting from pulp production, sulfuric acid, sulfate and bentonite, thereby preparing briquettes. The briquettes are charged into a vertical blast furnace together with a prescribed quantities of a melting agent and coke so that the briquettes are molten and refined. As a result, most of the iron in the charged material is changed into slag and the copper in the material is concentrated as iron-containing black crude copper and matte. The black copper is intermittently picked out through the bottom of the furnace. The matte and the slag are continuously discharged and then separated from each other on a front floor. Most of the zinc in the charged material is redu ced and evaporated and reacts with oxygen in exhaust gas so that the zinc changes into zinc oxide. This zinc oxide is used as a raw material for zinc recovery.
|
