The present invention relates to precision rolling bearings in which the rolling elements are composed of hard metal (sintered carbide) coated with a diffusion barrier consisting of a wear-resistant hard material with a low coefficient of friction in relation to the race material, in particular with carbides and (or) nitrides and (or) carbonitrides and (or) borides and (or) silicides and (or) oxides of the metals of Group III-VI of the periodic system of elements, in the form of a mixture or of a solid solution. The bearings according to the invention make possible the production of precision bearings which fall within the highest quality classes of AFBMA Standards ABEC 7 and 9, and are suitable for applications right up to the most extreme environments.
