1469936 Aromatic bis(ether anhydrides) GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 22 March 1974 [30 March 1973] 12865/74 Heading C2C Aromatic bis(ether anhydrides) are prepared by reacting an alkali metal diphenoxide of formula and an aromatic anhydride of formula where X and Y are each nitro or a halogen atom, M is an alkali metal ion, and R is a divalent aromatic radical of 6-30 carbon atoms, preferably either (a) one of the divalent aromatic radicals or (b) a radical of the formula where Q is a divalent radical of the formula -O- or -S- where m is 0 or 1, and y is a whole number from 1 to 5. The aromatic bis- (ether anhydrides) of formula where R<SP>1</SP> is and Q<SP>1</SP> is -O-, -S-, -C(CH 3 ) 2 - or -SO 2 - are novel. The compounds of the invention are used as intermediates in the preparation ofpolyimides and polyesters, and as curing agents for epoxy resins. |
