The invention relates to a profile which can be used, in particular, for cable shafts and consists of a thin metal sheet which is preferably perforated and bent in a U-shape. The profile has two vertical legs (3), the edges of which are lengthened by outer, vertical edge beads (4). The edge region (6) of each leg, which is connected to an edge bead, is offset into the interior of the profile with respect to said leg, to be precise owing to an S-shaped connection zone (7). This side offset portion of the upper edge region is carried out such that the edge bead does not form a protrusion horizontally with respect to the leg. <IMAGE>
