PURPOSE:To obtain an alkaline manganese battery which provides a high discharge voltage and a large electric capacity, by using a graphite powder coated with an alkali-proof metal as a conductive assistant which is added to gamma-manganese dioxide. CONSTITUTION:A positive active material 7 is made of gamma-MnO2 added with a conductive material. The conductive assistant added to gamma-MnO2, is prepared by coating a graphite powder with an alkali-proof metal. The above alkali-proof metal is preferred to be Ni, Ag, Au or an alloy consisting of not less than two of these metals. It is preferred that the graphite powder is evenly coated with the alkali-proof metal through either electroplating or electroless deposition, and that the thickness of the coating layer is 1-10mum. |
