PURPOSE:To manufacture rock wool with high operational stability and productivity by using fine grain crushed rock of slag freed of powder as principal starting material to reduce deviations of the internal air pressure of a furnace and the deposition of the rock to coat on the furnace wall. CONSTITUTION:Fine grain crushed rock of slag with about 10-45mm. grain size, preferably rock passed through a 40mm.-mesh screen and not passed through a 20mm.- mesh screen is freed of residual stuck powder and used as principal starting material for rock wool, which is manufactured by melting the rock with a coupola, an electric furnace or the like and converting the melt into fiber by an ordinary method. Said powder is removed by washing, screen classification or other method. By placing 3 with about 5-10mm. slit width under feeder 2 for feeding fine grain crushed rock of slag from starting material hopper 1, the rock may be freed of powder by dropping during rollig on grating 3. |
