Catalysts contg. Mn, Br, and Co are used for the oxidn. of p-xylene to terephthalic acid. After sepn. of terephthalic acid, the reaction soln. is supplied azeotropic distn. system with isobutyl acetate as azeotropic agent to recover the methyl acetate and solvent in terephthalic acid synthesis process. Thus, isobuthyl acetate, methyl acetate were extracted from aqueous soln, organic phase recycled to azeotropic distillation system.
