The telescopic strut contains a gas spring in a flexible lining, comparable to a bellows. The invention provides an elastic device exerting a relatively constant force, irrespective of width, to maintain the sepn. of the spreader frame, and to compensate the expansion and contraction in width of the spreader whilst under the control of external driving rollers for the fabric edges.
