OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTOR

PURPOSE:To provide an optical fiber connector of less variance in loss owing to mounting and dismounting by constituting only the end face in particular of an optical fiber in the butt surface of a plug to a concave spherical surface. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 1 is mounted in the center of an optical fiber connector 2, and a butt surface 4 is worked flat and the end face of the fiber 1 to a concave spherical surface. If in connecting optical fibers the end faces of the optical fibers which are held flat are opposed by leaving a microspace, multiple reflections calls Fresnel reflections occur between the end faces of the fibers and not only the loss of connection increases owing to their interference effect but also the reproducibility of connection efficiency is uncertain owing to the variance in the space between the fibers; whereas it is possible to prevent the multiple reflections such as those mentioned above by working only the end faces of the optical fibers to a concave spherical surface because these make the optical path lengths and phases of the reflected light random.
