NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula 1 (R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 and R3 are lower alkyl; R4 is phenyl or phenyl which is substituted by halogen, etc. or aralkyl; X and Y are different O or S). EXAMPLE:1,3-Dimethyl-5-phenyl-4-thiobiuret. USE:An anti-inflammatory agent and analgesic agent having antiallergic, diuretic, antimicrobial and anticonvulsant actions. PROCESS:Urea or thiourea of formula 2 is reacted with an isocyanate or isothiocyanate of formula 3 to give the compound of formula 1. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of a basic or acidic catalyst in a solvent, e.g. ether, at -20 deg.C- the refluxing temperature of the solvent. |
