The ignition system is for an internal combustion engine with a monitoring network for switching over the ignition angle. The ignition system is supplied from a direct current source (1). The positive supply lead (4) from the source is connected via a circuit branch leading through the primary winding (5) of an ignition coil (6) and then to the negative pole via an electronic switch (7). The monitoring network (14) is used to switch over from one starting ignition angle to a preceding no-load ignition angle. This switch-over on the minimum speed of the internal combustion engine.
