The burglar deterrent is intended for use with a spy-hole which normally allows the occupant of a house or flat to look out to identify a caller. An electronic control is linked to the electric door bell circuit, to a lock detector, and to a shock sensor providing an output if any activity is detected. A box is attached by magnetic clips to the inside of the door behind the spyhole. The box houses a small electric lamp, and an image of the occupants face. When the electronic circuit provides an output, the lamp is turned on for a timed interval, and so a potential burglar, looking in through the spy-hole, sees the occupant's face. This serves as a deterrent to an attempted forced entry to the house or flat.
