<p>The balance is used to measure directly, without calculation, the total amount of calories or of sugar contained in several food products measured together. Each food product is placed in a container which is positioned on the balance according to the number of calories it contains per 100 g. Each container is fitted at its bottom with a rod which pushes on the plate of the balance. This plate is balanced by a counterweight which can be placed at a variable distance from the balance plate. The counterweight gives, as a function of its position the total number of calories contained in the meal formed by the several food products placed in the containers.</p> |
