A fastening device of the kind comprising an elongate magazine to carry a series of gapped fasteners - usually short lengths of wire of generally C, U or like shape - bendable to close the gap, and bending mechanism having a pair of opposed press heads at an end of the magazine co-operable to bend each fastener following the feeding of each fastener from the magazine to an interhead position and the passage of parts to be joined into the fastener through the gap, is characterised in that the press heads (8, 9 or 28, 29) are co-operable to rotate the fastener (11) from a first interhead position in which it extends transversely of the direction of feed (F) with its gap (11G) adjacent to the magazine (1 or 25), to a second interhead position in which it extends in the general direction of feed (F) with its gap remote from the magazine (1 or 25). When the fastener (11) is in said second interhead position, passage of the parts to be joined into the fastener (11) through the gap (11G) is greatly facilitated. A press head (9) may include a wedge face (20) which, during an initial closing movement of the heads (8, 9) relative to one another, engages with the fastener (11) to rotate same to said second interhead position.
