PURPOSE:To muffle the engine noises efficiently by a method wherein the exhaust gas of the engine is passed under a water curtain formed by discharging waste water of engine-cooling water. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust pipe 9 for the engine 16 is provided in the interior of an upper casing 7, and it is provided with a restricting plate 10 as one body. The plate 10 is supported in an elastic and water-tight condition in relation to a casing for a driving shaft 8 and a partition wall 14, and forms a main expansion chamber 1 and the first auxiliary combustion chamber 3. In addition, the plate 10 is provided with a hole 11 for communicating the chambers 1, 3 to each other and a balancing pipe 2. A cooling-water discharge port 12 is provided in the chamber 3, and the second auxsiliary expansion chamber 5 is provided which is communicated into the chamber 3 through a passage 4 formed in the partition wall 14 at a position close to the discharge port 12. The chamber 5 is communicated to the exterior of the casing 7 through a tail pipe 6. The exhaust gas from the exhaust pipe 9 is discharged to the exterior after it is muffled while passing through the main expansion chamber 1, the hole 11, the balancing pipe 2, the first auxiliary expansion pipe 3, the water curtain (solid line arrows) formed of the waste cooling water discharged from the discharge port 12, the passage 4, the second auxiliary expansion chamber 5 and the tail pipe 6. |
