Use of 2-amino-2-ethyl-1,3-propanediol as an additive in an aqueous suspension, containing from 25 to 62 vol. % of at least one calcium carbonate-comprising material, wherein the use provides improved stability with regard to the conductivity of the suspension.

A method for increasing the pH of an aqueous suspension containing from 25 to 62 vol. % based on the total volume of the suspension of at least one calcium carbonate-comprising material and having a pH in the range of between 8.5 and 11, comprising adding 2-amino-2-ethyl-1,3-propanediol to the suspension in an amount so that the pH of the suspension is increased by at least 0.3 pH units and the suspension conductivity is reduced by not more than 100 μS/cm per pH unit.
