<p>The pref. additive consists of (a) an alkali metal bisulphite, plus (b) a liq. contg. sugars or amyl cpds. The constituents (a,b) may be added separately to a mixt., or may be mixed with each other before being used in a suspension or mixt. of solid particles. The amt. of the combined additive (a,b) employed in a mixt. is pref. less than 50-80% of the amt. of liq. (b) employed when the latter is used on its own. The additive produces a redn. in the mixing energy required, and also improves the quality of clay or barbotine prods. made from a mixt. contg. the additive. Used in the mfr. of clay or ceramic prods., where the additive improves the plasticity or mouldability of a mixt., and increases the mechanical strength of the prods., e.g. gypsum or plaster bricks.</p> |
