PURPOSE:To reduce the occurrence of deflected flows of fluids and to improve the heat transfer capacity of the titled heat exchanger by a method wherein each of spacers 7 is made to have a spiral configuration and a plurality of fluid passages communicating with one another in the spiral direction are formed in the radial direction of the spiral. CONSTITUTION:The configuration of each of the spacers 7 is in the form of an involute curve. Heat transfer plates 9 each made of a metallic plate having a number of holes 8 and the spacers 7 are laid one above another in an alternative fashion and the connecting portions of the heat transfer plates 9 and the spacers 7 are bonded together by use of a bond. Further, the fluid passages 3a and 4a for the fluids A and B communicate with each other on each of the heat transfer plates 9 and the width of each of the fluid passages is constant throughout the section extending along the involute curve. The heat exchange between the fluids A and B is performed through the transfer of heat in each of the heat transfer plates 9 in the radial direction. In this case, at the passages for the same fluid are in communication with one another on each of the heat trans-plates 9, the variation of fluid pressure in the passages among the plates 9 is absorbed in the overall fluid pressure in the entire length of the fluid passage as a whole. As a consequence, the deflection of the flow of each of the fluids in the direction of lamination of the heat transfer plates 9 hardly takes place so that the heat transfer capacity of the heat exchanger is improved.
