To produce capillaries (9) from materials having therapeutic properties such as for example organic thermoplastics or inorganic glasses, the method comprises the following successive steps: manufacturing of output capillaries (6') with a diameter exceeding the diameter that the final capillaries (9) should have; partitioning the output capillaries (6') into pieces and spreading and arranging side by side those pieces or lengthes of output capillaries to form a layer; conveying this layer through a decompression lock (3); conveying this layer through a heating area (4); evacuating the pieces (6) after the heating area with a reduction of the diameter and/or the thickness of the walls of the capillary pieces (6) and storage of the capillaries thus obtained. The method allows, with a plant reduced to the minimum, and economically, the production of large quantities of capillairies for making hollow glass fiber bands or rowings on a large scale.
