PURPOSE:To obtain a reliable and good display without failure despite the elevation of the temp. of the atmospheric air by using rubber as spacers between two sheets of substrates facing each other. CONSTITUTION:Display electrodes, a counter electrode, a background plate, etc. are disposed in the space between two sheets of glass substrates 9 and 9, and spacers 10 of rubber are held in place between the substrates 9, 9, and are adhered. While the spacers 10 are kept contracted by exerting a pressure toward the inside in the vertical direction of two sheets of the substrates 9, 9 by means of springs 11 utilizing springs or the like, an electrolyte 7 is sealed therein, whereby the intended electrochromic display cell is obtained. When the electrolyte 7 expands with an increase in the temp. of the atmospheric air, the space between two sheets of the substrates 9 and 9 is expanded by the change in the elastic modulus of the rubber spacers 10. As a result, the failure of the cell owing to the expansion of the electrolyte 7 is prevented. |
