PURPOSE:To ensure safe and reliable operation of an air conditioner using a heat accumulating medium capable of accumulating cold, by charing a heat accumulating or heat accumulating medium in a regenerative tank in the manner of leaving a hollow space at its upper portion, and thereby preventing rupture of a heat exchanger tube by the aid of a means for detecting the level of the upper surface of the heat accumulating medium in the tank. CONSTITUTION:Cooling water 8 is charged in a heat accumulating or regenerative tank 4 in the manner of leaving a hollow space 10 at its upper portion, and a means 11 for detecting the level of the upper surface of cooling water 8 in the tank 4 is disposed in the hollow space 10. With such an arrangement, when cold is accumulated in the tank 4 through operation of a space cooler 2, cooling water 8 is freezed and its volume is increased. However, the volume of cooling water 8 can be expanded freely since the hollow space 10 is formed in the tank 4. Subsequently, when the upper surface of cooling water 8 actuates said means 11 with proceeding of icing of cooling water 8, operation of the space cooler 2 is stopped. Thus, it is enabled to prevent excessive accumulation of cold in the tank and rupture of the heat exchanger tube 3 and hence to ensure safe and reliable operation of the air conditioner. |
