A pharmaceutical preparation containing as active ingredient a compound of the formula I wherein R1 is an alkyl group containing 1-6 carbon atoms 3 or benzyl, R2 is H, and R3 is H, or benzyl or physiologically acceptable salts or optical isomers thereof, together with a pharmaceutical diluent or carrier. These preparations are useful for selectively combating viruses which cause diseases in animals, including common infections and neoplastic diseases such as cancer.
