N<2>-arylsulfonyl-L-argininamides of the general formula wherein R is wherein R1 is hydrogen or C1-C5 alkyl; and Ar is 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro- 8-quinolyl optionally substituted with at least one C1-C5 alkyl, or the acid addition salts thereof found useful as pharmaceutical agents, particularly as antithrombotics, pharmaceutical compositions containing these substances and processes for preparing these compounds are disclosed.
