A method and apparatus for removing water from oil, particularly from aviation kerosene, uses an electrostatic coalescence technique in which an electric field in a substantially vertical plane is applied across a substantially horizontal flow of oil containing a dispersed water phase through an inlet duct 10, the electric field extending across the whole of the flow path to form a region of coalesced water drops constituting a filter. The fluid passing through this vertical plane enters a settling chamber 11 from which oil is drawn off at an oil outlet 16 at the top and water is drawn off from the bottom through an outlet 18. <IMAGE> |
