PRODUCTION OF WATER COOLING PLATE OR THE LIKE OF WALKING BAR IN CONTINUOUS CASTING INSTALLATION

PURPOSE:To obtain a water cooling plate which has high durability and stable quality by subjecting the inside and outside diameters of a hollow cylindrical blank material to rough finishing then to flattening so as to allow a cooling water groove to remain and further subjecting the same to finishing so as to make one side thin and the other side thick. CONSTITUTION:A centrifugally cast pipe is used as a starting material, and is subjected to rough finishing to produce the 1st intermediate material 20. The material 20 is subjected to flattening in a hot state to produce the 2nd intermediate material 21. The hole 22 of the matrial 21 serves as a cooling water groove. A heat treatment is further applied on the material 21 and the material is finished to a prescribed size to produce a finish product 23 for water cooling plate having the linear sectional shape shown by a chain line. The finishing is so accomplished as to allow a thin wall 24 to remain on one side of the flat surface and a thick wall 25 on the other side. The side of the wall 24 is the cooling surface that contacts with an ingot in the water cooling plate of a walking bar.
