The invention relates to a composition for the preparation of a carbon-containing base component for use in the production of silicon-containing antifriction materials. The composition comprises 65-85 wt-% of a carbon-containing filler, 12-30 wt-% of a phenol - formaldehyde resin, and 3-5 wt-% of a glass ceramic material. The latter contains 10-12 wt-% of alumina, 12- 14 wt-% of calcium oxide, 9-11 wt-% of magnesia and 5-8 wt-% of sodium oxide, the rest being silica.
