An optical device is constructed entirely in solid state technology, utilising a solid state medium complying with the laws of optics and having the desired form, nature and dimensions. Preferred solid state mediums included inorganic or inorganic glass, quartz or quartz glass, also plastics. In a claimed simple example shown, a simple telescope comprises lenses cast into a solid, monolithic cylindrical bar, the end being covered with opaque material except for a viewing aperture. Other claimed uses include astronomical telescopes and microscopes. |
