LUBRICATING COMPOSITION EXCELLENT IN RESISTANCE TO WEAR AND EXTREME PRESSURE AND FRICTION PROPERTIES

PURPOSE:To provide a lubricating composition with improved resistance to wear and extreme pressure and friction properties, prepared by adding an organic Mo compd. and an acidic phosphate (phosphite) ester to a base oil with a lubricative viscosity. CONSTITUTION:The lubricating composition is prepared by adding as essential ingredients (A) at least one organic Mo compd. of formula I (where R1 and R2 are each a 1-30C hydrocarbon group; m and n are 1-3 and m+n is 4) and II(where R3 and R4 are each 1-24C alkyl; x and y are 1-3 and x+y is 4) (e.g. molybdenum oxysulfide propyl phosphorodithioate and molybdenum sulfide-2- ethylhexyl dithiocarbamate) and (B) at least one acidic phosphate (phosphite) ester of formulas III, IV and V (where R5 and R6 are each a 4-30C hydrocarbon group) to a base oil having a lubricative viscosity (e.g. mineral oil or ester oil). The combined use of compds. (A) and (B) produces a lubricating composition with markedly improved resistance to wear and extreme pressure and friction properties (friction reducing effect).
