A multi-purpose container is described which consists of plastic, textiles, wood, metal, wickerwork or the like, possibly in conjunction with one or more holding frames or linkages, and is suitable, in particular, for travel or household purposes. The container (1) consists of a plurality of parts which can be collapsed or pushed together and can be retained in the erected state. In one embodiment, for example, a bottom (2) is connected to walls (4) at its edges so as to be swivellable via swivel hinges (3). In other embodiments, however, plug-in connections or similar connections can also be used. An embodiment is also described, in which a plurality of wall units are connected to one another to form a continuous loop which can be collapsed in a zigzag manner, and in which a preferably likewise collapsible bottom board can be secured on the loop. <IMAGE>
