A method and a device for monitoring electrical loads, in particular in motor vehicles, is proposed. With this method, the monitoring of the failure of filament lamps in particular is possible. A resistor is connected in series with the load to be monitored and a pulse generator is switched on when said resistor experiences a voltage drop. The pulses of the individual pulse generators are counted in a monitoring circuit. If a pulse is absent, a warning signal is issued. In a further method, the currents of the loads to be monitored are conducted via a common measuring resistor and the entire voltage drop is stored in a storage device. In the event of a sudden decrease in the load current, a warning signal is issued since a load has failed. <IMAGE>
