Method of traffic sensing on telecommunication lines

The invention relates to a method of traffic sensing of analog telephone signals with sensors and is characterised in that the signal to be sensed is investigated for amplitude modulation at low frequencies of a few Hz, in that the amplitude of the envelope of this signal is compared with an adjustable threshold value and in that, if the latter is exceeded, the response sensitivity of the sensor is set to a great value and, if it is not exceeded, it is set to a small value. The advantage of this method is that traffic sensing is still possible if the noise signal reaches or exceeds the voice level of someone speaking quietly.
