PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium with high durability by laminating a protective layer on a magnetic layer with a crosslinking agent in-between and by causing a cross-linking reaction by the cross-linking agent to improve the adhesive strength of the protective layer to the magnetic layer and to increase the resistance of the protective layer to stripping. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 1 of about 20mum-3mm. thickness is made of a metal such as Al or a polymer such as polyester or polycarbonate. A magnetic layer 2 is formed by depositing a ferromagnetic metal such as Fe or Ni by vacuum deposition, ionic plating or other method. A cross-linking agent 3 is sulfur(-S-8), a compound having an unsatd. hydrocarbon chain, a difunctional compound such as dicarboxylic acid or bisepoxide of hydroxyl groups of cellulose or polyvinyl alcohol, or a compound having a satd. hydrocarbon chain as a radical source for peroxide, azo compound, disulfide or the like. The magnetic layer 2, the cross-linking agent 3 and a protective layer 4 are successively laminated on the substrate 1, and the agent 3 is heated or irradiated with ultraviolet rays to cause a cross-linking reaction. By the reaction the layer 4 is adhered to the layer 2. |
