PURPOSE:To make at automatic adjustment without spoiling the compatibility among tapes by performing magnetic recording operation for optimizing a write current right after the completion of writing operation based upon a command from a host device, and using the detected optimum write current for magnetic recording by the next write command. CONSTITUTION:A writing head 10 is driven by a writing circuit 11 to write a write current adjustment signal 102 after the write data signal 10 corresponding to a record 101 is written. The current value of a current source 12 for the write current flowed to the writing head 10 is set to a desired value by sending data from a microprocessor 4 to a register 13. The current flowed to the writing head 10 is varied stepwise to record the current adjustment signal 102 on a tape 5. The microprocessor 4 obtains the output voltage of a reading head 9 corresponding to the data set value (write current value) to the regiter 13 hrough an A/D converter 16. |
