<p>PURPOSE:To attain a liquid crystal optical shutter which has no leak of light and is suitable for the time division driving system, by subjecting a shutter aperture part of a liquid crystal matrix and the other parts to orientation treatments different from each other. CONSTITUTION:In a liquid crystal optical shutter array, transparent line electrodes 22a and 22b and metallic light shielding masks 25 are formed on a substrate 24, and an insulating film 27 consisting of PVA is formed on them, and the surface is subjected to orientation treatment by rubbing. A photoresist is applied, and masks are used to eliminate the photoresist layer in a section 26 in figure and the substrate is immersed in a dye solution to form a colored insulating film 26. After washing with water and drying, a homeotropic (HT) orientation treatment 28 is performed. Then, an opaque light shielding mask subjected to the HT orientation treatment 28 is formed in the gap between line electrodes 22a and 22b. A substrate where signal electrodes 23a-23d... are arranged with a P type liquid crystal between them is put on the substrate 24, and a polarizing plate is arranged, thus attaining a liquid crystal optical shutter which has no leak of light and is suitable for the time division driving system.</p> |
