PURPOSE:To form easily a table of contents by providing the titled device with a memory which divides chapters, sections, subsections, paragraphs, etc. indicating the items of the table of contents, storing the contents of the items and the number of pages and storing the leading address in which the contents of the items are stored. CONSTITUTION:A method for dividing chapters, sections, subsection, paragraphs, etc. indicating the items of the table of contents is previously fixed. For instance, the item number of the item of the table is indicated in alphanumeric, a chapter dividing mark is ''.'', the succeeding alphanumeric indicates the section number, a dividing mark between a section and a subsection is ''-'', the succeeding alphanumeric is the subsection number, and the number in parentheses indicates a paragraph number. In accordance with these divisions, the number of pages and the leading address of the contents are stored in an address table. When the item of the table of contents in a document is to be retrieved, the alphanumerics and dividing marks are noticed. Thus, the formation of the table of contents and the correcting work can be performed efficiently. |
