PURPOSE:To perform fast continuous picture reproduction by holding the read operation stop state of an image pickup element from the closure of a shutter to the arrival of the next frame synchronizing signal, and performing reading operation synchronously with the frame synchronizing signal. CONSTITUTION:When a release switch 110 is pressed, a trigger pulse (c) is inputted to a shutter control signal generator 111, which generates a signal (d) synchronously with the vertical synchronizing signal (a) of a synchronizing signal generator 108 to open a shutter 102, allowing an object image to enter the image pickup element 103. The signal (d) is led to a read stop signal generator 202, and the reading operation of the element 103 is stopped by a signal (e) synchronizing with the signal (a) from the generator 202. When a frame synchronizing signal (b) synchronized with the signal (a) is inputted from a frame synchronizing signal generator 201 to the generator 202, the signal (e) falls to hold the element 103 in readiness for reading operation, and its stored charges are sent as a one- frame signal (f) to a recording device 105 through a signal processing circuit 104. At the same time, a recording control signal generator 203 generates a recording control signal (g) to record the signal on the device 105.
