A cylindrical key shank of magnetic material is magnetised by apparatus including a magnetising head with an electrical conductor presenting an arcuate surface towards the shank and having a slot extending from a boundary of the conductor almost to the arcuate surface. Apparatus for recognising the key is disclosed. |
