In order to make it possible to monitor deviations from the ideal operating conditions of a grinding and/or a polishing device for the machining of light metal profiled sections, it is proposed to measure and evaluate, in the electric circuit of an electric motor (4) of a grinding or polishing station (3), the deviation from a predetermined current consumption, which is shown by means of an ampere meter (8). A deviation from a predetermined set point value is recorded by a current relay (9), and as a result a blinker unit (10) and a time delay switch (12) are activated.
