PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of operation of the titled adjuster which is used to adjust a tappet clearance by means of a thickness gauge by providing an adjusting means which is capable of successively and automatically making actions of adjusting an adjusting screw and tightening a lock nut after the adjusting screw. CONSTITUTION:Before adjusting operation, a thickness gauge is first set in a tappet clearance, a bit 30 and a socket 31 are engaged in the slot 12a on an adjusting screw 12 and a lock nut 13, respectively and an air motor 32 is then turned. A rotation shaft 37 is thereby turned via turning shaft 33, a gear 33b and a pinion gear 35 and a bit 30 is also turned by the shaft 37 via a magnet clutch 42 and other elements so as to screw the adjusting screw 12. Oscillation of a rocker arm 7 is restricted to a contact point with the thickness gauge and a clutch 42 and a counterpart disc slips each other and are separated from each other. A sensor 45 detects the separation of them, at the time of which, a cylinder 50 is operated to apply a brake 38 and the socket 31 is turned to tighten the lock nut 13. |
