In order to secure the ram in a machine tool for non-cutting forming, in particular of a large press, in a favourable working position for repair and maintenance purposes, which ram can move up and down in the press frame and is fitted with tools, a ram-locking means serves to secure the position. The ram-locking means consists of a guide rod, mounted concentrically and rotatably in a housing, for a slidable spindle which can be adjusted relative to the guide rod and is firmly connected to a tie bar at its bottom end emerging on the ram side from the housing, which tie bar carries a locking piece, facing which is a corresponding location opening at the ram, a rotary movement induced in the guide rod being transmitted to the spindle with the tie bar and leading to angular adjustments of the spindle relative to the housing.
