Supercharging device for a rotary piston or axial piston engine comprising a plurality of cylinder chambers axially arranged in a rotating drum with pistons supported on an inclined drive plate and cylinder head with a combustion chamber and inlet and exhaust pipes fixed on the one end of the drum, a pipe being arranged parallel to the cylinder head, the one end of which pipe is the gas exhaust end and the other end of which opens in the cylinder head in the orbit of the cylinder chambers, an air inlet pipe also opening in the drum's direction of rotation prior to the point at which the pipe enters the cylinder head, the outlet cross section of which inlet pipe in a circumferential direction extends at least over one cylinder chamber cross section, and a nozzle being arranged prior to the point at which the air inlet pipe enters the cylinder head in the drum's direction of rotation, the outlet end of which nozzle opens axially in the pipe counter to the gas outlet, and the distance between the leading outlet edge of the air inlet pipe in the drum's direction of rotation and the trailing edge of the outlet of the pipe in the cylinder head being smaller than the diameter of a cylinder.
