The invention relates to a liquid composition producing gaseous ethylene, by catalytic conversion to ethylene, which mainly contains ethanol, 1.0 % to 15 % by volume of methanol, 0.1 % to 10 % by volume of an ester such as amyl acetate and 0.1 % to 15 % of an aliphatic alcohol such as isopropanol. This liquid composition makes it possible to maintain the conversion efficiency of the catalyst at a high value and reduces the formation of by-products to a minimum.
