Device for fusion joining of optical fibres (5, 6), having a clamping device (2) for the optical fibres (5, 6) and a fibre-guiding device (3) with two guide elements (4, 40), which are situated opposite one another at a distance and have in each case a plurality of grooves (12) which accommodate the optical fibre ends (7, 8), extend horizontally and are provided with a V-shaped groove bottom, the grooves (12) of one guide element (4, 40) being aligned with those of the other guide element (4, 40), so that in each case a pair of optical fibres inserted for joining abut one another, and having a heat source (9) which for the purpose of temporally sequential fusion of the pairs of optical fibres is arranged to be displaceable at right angles to the longitudinal axes (18) of the grooves. <IMAGE>
