PURPOSE:To obtain superior aptitude to a density reduction process by incorporating a compd. having electrostatic charge and insoluble in water and soluble in an org. solvent miscible with water in at least one of upper nonphotosensitive layers formed on a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION:At least one of upper nonphotosensitive layers formed on a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer contains a compd. having charge and insoluble in water and soluble in an org. solvent miscible with water to obtain a silver halide photosensitive material for plate making. Such a plate making photosensitive material is exposed and developed and then, the obtained silver image is processed with a reducing soln. through the upper nonphotosensitive layers. The charged compd. used for the upper layer may be any of an anionic or cationic or amphoteric compd., such as C16H33SO3Na. The addition of such a compd. can enlarge reduction latitude in reduction processing of a photosensitive material for printing, a reduction effect is not deteriorated even in the case of a low content of spread silver, and reticulation is not caused.
