PRODUCTION OF WEAR-RESISTANT COMPOSITE CASTING

PURPOSE:To form a wear-resistant composite casting and to improve the mechanical characteristic thereof in production of a casting by mounting a wear-resistant sintered hard body having a prescribed shape to the prescribed position in a casting mold and pouring a molten metal into the mold to melt stick and unite said body and the molten metal to one body. CONSTITUTION:A sintered hard body (a) of a prescribed shape consisting of tungsten carbide powder and powder of an alloy consisting of iron or nickel or a combination of optional two or three kinds thereof is mounted in a casting mold 1 consisting of casting sand 4 coated with a surface coating material 12. A molten metal M' is poured into the mold to melt stick and embed the body (a) by casting, thereby forming a wear-resistant composite casting. The prescribed part of the casting is thus made wear-resistant, by which the mechanical characteristic of the casting is improved.
