As a novel forepoling lagging mat, in particular for use underground, a mat is proposed in which in each case two longitudinal bars (e.g. 21 and 21') are formed by a bow (21/21'), in which arrangement the apex-side projecting lengths (211, 211') of the legs (21 and 21') beyond the corresponding last cross bar (31) in the apex (213) run together in such a way as to form an eye (214), and the opposite projecting lengths (212, 212') of the legs (21 and 21') beyond the corresponding last cross bar (39) are bent out after running together (216, 216') to form a hammer-head-like structure (218) which can be hung into the corresponding eye (214) of the preceding mat. <IMAGE>
