PURPOSE:To heat and elongate a residual length of a strand fiber, suppressing the buckling and contraction of a glass tube in a vacuum state, by packing a packing material in the vicinity of the upper end face of the strand fiber of the glass tube by holding a prescribed interval. CONSTITUTION:420 pieces of multi-fibers 1 formed by bundling and welding 37 pieces of optical fiber strands are arranged and contained in a glass tube 2. A quartz rod 3 is packed as a packing material in the vicinity of the upper end face of the fibers 1 in the tube 2. The fibers are heated and melted at 1,900 deg.C by a heating furnace, forming a vacuum in the pipe, drawn and elongated by a take-off roller 5, and wire-drawn to 1.5mm. outside diameter. In this way, an image base material consisting of the fibers 1 of 420pieces is prepared. This base material is cut at a prescribed length, both ends of each base material are clamped and fixed by a clamping tool, and thereafter, both these ends are welded. Subsequently, plural pieces of image guides are prepared by hardening both the ends by an epoxy resin and polishing it. |
