An infinitely variable transmission unit includes a first body (26) rotatable on a first axis (12) and drivably connected with a unit input (32), and a second body (34) having rolling surfaces (44, 46) about a second axis (40). The second body is carried by the first body so that the second axis is inclined with respect to and intersects the first axis. There is a further a third body in the form of a pair of rings (50, 52) defining rolling surfaces (54, 56) about the first axis. The rolling surfaces of the second body are oppositely inclined so as to be of variable radii whereas the rolling surfaces of the third body are of relatively constant radius. The rolling surfaces are in frictional engagement with each other at contact points and means (58, 60, 62, 64) are provided for adjusting the position of the contact points to vary the ratio of the rolling surface radii. A first output shaft (70) is driven by gears (76, 80, 82) and a second output shaft 72 is driven by a ring gear (78) engaged by gear (76). <IMAGE> |
